Many of us conduct remodels, prior to placing our homes on market. The National Association of Homebuilders (NAHB) research shows the major driver of remodeling is home sales. With that in mind, have you considered adding some ‘multi-generational’ living spaces? According to the National Association of Realtors (NAR) 2015 Profile of Home Buyers and Sellers, 32% of homebuyers indicated that buying a home with next generation space was important to them.
Homebuyers are seeing floorplans and housing solutions, which allow for multi-generations to live under the same roof (with either adult children or parents) as well as spaces for caregivers. Some ideas:
Kitchen redo – wide aisles, & add 2nd sink, so multiple cooks can participate in meal prep.
Bath redo – consider a curbless shower, and bench, for ease of access to people of all ages.
Convert an office/den into a Main floor guest room & bath – (if your house floorplan is flexible enough to accommodate.)
Convert basement rec rooms into a separate guest suite with kitchenette, 2nd laundry, bed/bath.
